ORTOTIKA

Technology

We use a range of technologies to make custom orthopaedic devices. The manufacturing method is chosen to achieve both a good fit and the best possible treatment effect.

We keep developing
• continually improving our manufacturing methods
• using modern technology
• following international developments

We obtain the measurements needed using:
• 3D scanning
• plaster bandage casting
• tape measurements
• foot impressions

3D scanning

3D scanning

To improve precision and patient comfort, we use modern 3D scanning and CAD/CAM technology. Different parts of the body can be scanned according to the patient's needs and the doctor's requirements. We use a handheld Creaform optical 3D scanner. Reference markers are placed on the uncovered body area to improve accuracy, even if the patient moves slightly. The orthotist then performs the scan. Scanning is painless, uses no ionising radiation and can be repeated when needed.

To process the scanned model, we use VXelements software, which completes the scan data and integrates them into device design. Further adjustments to the 3D model are made in Canfit 3D, where we create the required shape and corrections. The computer model is then milled, and important details and corrections that cannot be adequately produced digitally are finished by hand.

Plaster bandage casting

We take a cast of the uncovered body area using plaster bandages. For a spinal brace cast, it is helpful to bring spare underwear and a hair tie or clip.

Casting is not painful, but it can leave plaster on the skin. We provide a towel and washcloth for cleaning afterwards.

3D scanning

Foot impressions

We record the shape and contact pattern of the foot using a footprint device, an impression in foam or a podoscope.

Tape measurements

We measure the required body area with a tape measure, over clothing or directly on the skin as appropriate. This is painless.
