For patients
Thank you for choosing our clinic to make your orthosis. Every patient matters to us, and we aim to provide each person with careful, individual attention. Please contact us and book an appointment before every visit. This helps the approval and manufacturing process run smoothly and saves you time. Here is what you need to know before coming to see us.
Documents you will need
Before your first visit, please arrange the following:
- From 1 January 2026, an ePoukaz (Czech electronic prescription for a medical device) is issued for the prescribed orthosis. You identify the prescription using a nine-character code sent by text message or email, in a similar way to an electronic medicine prescription. The prescription has a limited validity period: it must normally be presented to the provider making the device within 30 days of issue, unless the doctor specifies a different period (up to 90 days). The ePoukaz must also be accompanied by a medical report explaining why the device is needed.
- An ePoukaz for an orthopaedic medical device may be issued by a specialist in orthopaedics (ORT), surgery (CHR), rehabilitation medicine (REH), neurology (NEU) or orthopaedic prosthetics (ORP).
- The ePoukaz contains a code identifying the type of device. A list of codes is available here.
The ePoukaz is sent electronically to the patient's health insurance provider, together with the medical report and a preliminary cost estimate prepared by the company making the device, for approval by the insurer's reviewing physician. We cannot prepare the estimate without a valid ePoukaz. Electronic approval is usually processed within a few days. Your insurer can provide information about approval, and may also notify you by text message.
A device can also be made without an insurance prescription, but a medical report recommending its use is still required. In this case, the patient pays the full cost.
Manufacturing, fitting and collection
At the first visit, an orthotist-prosthetist selects the appropriate type of device based on the doctor's prescription and determines how measurements will be taken, for example by 3D scanning, plaster casting or direct measurement.
Once the insurer approves the device, we take the required cast or scan if this has not already been done, and manufacturing begins. The process usually takes around four weeks, depending on approval, the complexity of the device and how it is made. When it is ready, we contact you to arrange a fitting. We adjust the shape and fit to achieve the best possible balance between comfort and function before supplying it. The person who will wear the device must attend the fitting and collection appointments. Further adjustments may be needed after collection as part of the fitting process.
Adjustments and repairs
Devices may need adjustment or repair at the request of the treating doctor or the patient, for example following changes in body shape, damage or pressure problems. We always aim to maintain the best possible function.
The prescribing doctor can issue a prescription for an adjustment or repair , or the patient may choose to pay privately. Under the stated Czech insurance arrangements, adjustments and repairs require a patient contribution of 25%. Without a prescription, our current price list applies. Minor adjustments or repairs taking up to approximately half an hour and requiring little material are free of charge. More extensive work is charged according to our price list, which we can send on request. Please email: info@ortotika.cz or use the contact option below.
